The vision of the YONSEI Mathematical Sciences and Computation is to challenge solving the core problems of mathematics and to foster convergence talents required by society. To this end, we aim 1) to develop new industrial fields based on a deep understanding of mathematics, 2) to train mathematicians with comprehensive thinking and problem-solving ability, and 3) to establish an international status in research. This center provides an educational program in which the graduate students are trained to have the ability to solve problems in various fields such as mathematical, social, and industrial areas by combining theoretical mathematics, applied mathematics, and computational mathematics in a balanced way. Faculty members and researchers conduct advanced and breaking-through research, collaborate with other fields, and encourage next-generation researchers.

YPERI is a physics institute supported by a Korean government program, the BrainKorea21-Stage 4. It cherishes and further develops the more than 100-year legacy of the first Physics Department in Korea, starting with Yonhee college's Math-Physics Department established in 1915. Yonsei literally means "leading the world" and YPERI has endeavored to lead the education and research in Physics since it has been selected as the first physics institute of the BK21-Stage1 in 1999. Presently YPERI is joined by 20 excellent professors and pursuing the leading-edge education and research in three focused areas, Quantum Universe, Quantum Matter, and Quantum Applications.

The Brain Korea (BK21) chemistry education center for sustainability hosted by the chemistry department at Yonsei University is designed for fostering of chemists primed with high level research-based problem solving skills. The young chemistry talents we educate are expected to play pivotal roles in responding to unforeseen problems our society may face, thereby contributing to the well-being of humanity and sustainable future of the planet. In order to actively respond and solve societal demands, our education and research program has two development tracks with emphasis on ‘energy’ and ‘bio’ themes. The two tracks are designed to develop talents geared specifically towards problem solving research related to climate change, renewable energy, advanced healthcare, and nano-biomedicine. The faculty of the BK21 chemistry education center strives to adopt advanced teaching methods in order to best provide quality education for students, all the while performing cutting-edge fundamental chemistry research at levels comparable to leading universities around the globe.

The Institute of Earth·Atmosphere·Astronomy aims for creative and challenging research that can contribute to better human life with the future-oriented vision of ‘Earth & Universe 2050’. With a common vision, this institute continues to strive to develop the compendium of knowledge and research that our society requires by conducting a wide range of projects covering geology, ocean, atmosphere, and space, based upon interdisciplinary collaboration between earth, atmospheric, and astronomical sciences. Specifically, we contribute to improve human wellbeing by conducting research on fine dust, abnormal climate, natural disasters, space environment, and exploration which are directly related to human life. The institute consists of professors, research associates, and graduate students. Participating graduate students of the institute are creating globally influential research results with international collaborators with support for globalization using overseas stay programs or online systems. In addition, by establishing governance and mentoring systems between professors, research associates, and graduate students, we have created a smooth communication channel for graduate students leading them to grow as independent researchers in a stable research environment.
